Manitoba Drivers Face 5 Demerits For Use of Handheld Devices

Did you know that drivers who are engaged in texting are 23 times more likely to be involved in crashes than non-distracted drivers? 80% of collisions and 65% of near crashes are due to some form of driver inattention.

To keep our streets safe, the Province of Manitoba has announced that effective July 1st, drivers caught using their hand-held electronic devices will soon be assessed 5 demerits from the current 2 demerits.Back in May we shared MPI’s raod safety resources,in our Focus On The Road blog. Check it out for more information about distracted driving.

It’s safe to say that many of us spend a substantial amount of time in our vehicles and on the road.  Driving requires our full attention at all times – especially with summer time road constructions, cyclists, pedestrians, and in the fall all the tots heading back to school.  Let’s make the roads safer for everyone, and keep a little extra cash in our pockets by putting the handheld devices away.

We at Macdonald Auto Body are professionally certified and MPI fully accredited to fix your automobile but unfortunately we cannot fix you if you were involved in a serious accident.
